Description: The C. F. Voegelin Papers contain vocabulary, grammatical notes, short texts, and other linguistic and ethnographic materials relating to Menominee language and culture. These are located in both Subcollection I and Subcollection II of the Voegelin Papers. Materials in Subcollection I include corespondence with Leonard Bloomfield (regarding inscription on a silver bracelet obtained from Menominees and Bloomfield's "Menomini Grammar") in Series I. Correspondence; and 3 boxes of Menominee vocabulary and 2 folders of document files (mostly regarding kinship terminology) in Series II. Card Files. Materials in Subcollection II include a folder of Menominee notes (possibly given to Voegelin by Leonard Bloomfield) in Series II. Research Notes, Subseries III. Macro-Algonquian. There are also Menominee examples in at least 6 folders ("Č and K," "L and M," "N and P," " Š and T," "Θ and ?" and "Specimens of Central Algonquian") of the many Comparative Algonquian notebooks in the same subseries (i.e., Macro-Algonquian).

In the "Mohawk" section, Barbeau's "Mohawk and Cayuga grammatical material recorded... at Six Nations Reserve" (item I1a.1) includes analysis, from Mohawk materials, of the Indian vocabularies appended to the account of Jacques Cartier's first and second voyages. In the "Algonkian" section, Sapir's "Notes on Seneca, Mohawk, Delaware, Tutelo, Abenaki, Malecite, Micmac, Montagnais, and Cree [and Algonquian]" (item I1.2) includes vocabulary and texts from Kahnawake and Grand River. In the "Iroquois" section, "Material on Iroquois dialects" (item I1.3) includes biographical and some linguistic information on Mohawk, conducted as part of a broader comparative study of Iroquoian languages, for which accompanying audio materials can be found in the collection "Material on Iroquois Dialects and Languages" (Mss.Rec.13).

Description: The Mohawk materials in the Lounsbury Papers are primarily found in the "Mohawk" section of Series II: Research Subject. This section contains materials Lounsbury recorded directly with Mohawk speakers from Kahnawake such as Minnie Diabo and Louise Diabo, who Lounsbury appears to have first met via the Mohawk community in Boerum Hill, Brooklyn. The section also contains notes by Gordon Day, Marius Barbeau, J.N.B. Hewitt, and others. There are also notes for a Mohawk dictionary collected by Gunther Michelson between 1961-1994. The recordings in Series VII include a series entitled "The Mohawks Learn Mohawk," of Lounsbury talking with students in a classroom setting. Description: The Mohegan materials in Series V of the A. Irving Hallowell Papers are composed of stories in Mohegan translated into English, brief grammatical notes, two pages of vocabulary, and 2 maps of Native American tribes in Connecticut. See folder in Series V labelled "Mohegan Vocabulary and Text; Falls River Indian Reservation; Iroquois; Other Ethnology Notes." In the folder labled "American Indian #4" in Box 24, Series V, there is an image of Gladys and Harold Tantaquidgeon. In Series VI, Subseries D, there are about 26 photographs identified as Mohegan-related. In Series I, a correspondence folder labelled "Tantaquidgeon, Harold & Gladys," contains a brochure for the Tantaquidgeon Museum from 1971.
