Description: The Patwin materials in the Harvey Pitkin Papers include notebooks, notes, vocabularies, slip files, texts, manuscripts and tracings by A.M. Halpern, Paul Radin, A.L. Kroeber, T.T. Waterman, Donald Ultan, and Howard Wilson, along with pencil sketches by Patwin people in Subcollection I, Series I, Series I-A. There are two dictionaries, by Paul Radin and Donald Ultan in Subcollection I, Series I, Series I-B. Series I-C contains linguistic materials collected by Jaime de Angulo, Kroeber, and Waterman. Series I-D contains Pitkin's work with using a krmograph to create phonetic tracings. Subcollection I, Series II-A includes linguistic work done by Elizabeth Bright, Waterman. Subseries 4-C in Subcollection II includes fieldwork done by Pitkin comparing Patin to Wintu and Nomlaki as well as FIeld notes by Morris Swadesh, nineteen unpublished Vocabularies collected by Pitkin, Jaime de Angulo, Mary Haas, Sally McLendon, Mary Bright, Donald Ultan, and Radin. Subseries 5 contains an index to Radin's work on Patwin as well as Pitkin's work on Proto-Wintu and William Bright's worker wtih the speaker Minnie Bill.

Description: The C. F. Voegelin Papers contain correspondence, notes, texts, articles, and other linguistic and ethnographic materials relating to Penobscot language and culture. These are located in both Subcollection I and Subcollection II of the Voegelin Papers. Materials in Subcollection I include correspondence with Frank Siebert (regarding his Penobscot fieldwork, particularly mourning and mortuary customs); 1 box of Ojibwa [Ojibwe], Seneca, and Penobscot notes in Series II. and Penobscot material in Ojibwe Folder #24 in Series VI. Notebooks. In Subcollection II, there is Frank Siebert's "Bumole, The Air Sprite" (a story in Penobscot and in English, sent to Voegelin in 1939) in Series II. Research Notes, Subseries III. Macro-Algonquian; and a Penobscot file in Series V. Card Files.

Description: Plains Cree language field notebooks and loose notes from Sweetgrass Reserve and Starblanket Reserve (or Ahtahkakoop), Saskatchewan. The first 10 notebooks (approximately 160 pages each) appear to be in Bloomfield's hand primarily contain texts, with some word lists, in romanized Plains Cree orthography, almost entirely untranslated. A final notebook and loose notes contain 26 texts (numbered 83-108) written in Cree syllabic script by Harry Achenam, with one (#108) written or dictated by Maggie Achenam. The loose notes also contain at least 1 brief text (5 p.) in Cree syllabic script written by "Askiy-kā-pimuhtātahk (Pimutat)" of Starblanket Reserve. These texts were intended as part of a sequel to Bloomfield's Plains Cree TextsPlains Cree Texts (1934), but were never published.

Description: The C. F. Voegelin Papers contain notes, notebooks, stories, photographs, and other linguistic and ethnographic materials relating to Potawatomi (Pottowatomi) language and culture. These are located in both Subcollection I and Subcollection II of the Voegelin Papers. Materials in Subcollection I include relevant correspondence with Eli Lilly (regarding the discovery of inscribed stones and their possible meaning; see photographs referenced below) in Series I. Correspondence; a folder of Ojibwa [Ojibwe] and Pottowatomi [Potawatomi] comparative vocabularies in Series V. Research Notes, Subseries V-A: Language Notes; a folder of three undated "Pottowatomi" notebooks containing texts (with some English translation) and mentioning consultants Smallman Isaac, William George, and William Soney in Series VI. Notebooks; and two images of stones inscribed with Potawatomi petroglyphs, from Elkhart, Indiana, in Series VII. Photographs. These images have been digitized and are available through the APS's Digital Library. In Subcollection II, there are Potawatomi stories in the Eastern Woodland category in Series III. Description: The Quileute collection in the ACLS collection consists of a large body of materials located primarily in the "Quileute" section of the finding aid. These materials were recorded primarily by Albert Reagan, Leo Frachtenberg, and Manuel Andrade. Reagan was an Indian agent and teacher at the Quileute Day School. His materials (item W3a.10, "Quileute ethnology"), dated from 1908-1913, primarily include drawing made by students at the Quileute Day School. These images include pencil and ink sketches, color crayon drawings, watercolors, and gelatin silver prints of utensils, canoes, drums, rattles, toys, arrows, masks, totems, and decorative patterns. Frachtenberg's materials date from roughly 1915 to 1922 and contain detailed ethnographic and linguistic information, split up into several different listed items. Andrade's work followed shortly after Frachtenberg and concerns primarily linguistic information and additional stories. Arthur Howeattle is a prominent Quileute consultant for some of these items. Some additional materials comparing the Quileute and Chemakum languages can be found in the "Chimakum" section of the finding aid (items W3b.1, W3b.2, and W3b.4), as well as comparisons of Quileute and Nuu-chah-nulth in the "Nootka" section of the finding aid (item W2a.13).
