Description: The Catawba materials in the ACLS collection consist of three items found in the "Catawba" section of the finding aid. There is one notebook by Morris Swadesh (item X1.2, "Catawba field notes") containing texts, vocabularies, grammatical notes, and a Catawba "letter to Speck". This also includes 2 pages of unidentified "Alaskan Eskimo" mixed in (probably Unaaliq). There are two Catawba lexicons: one by Amelia Susman (item X1.1), containing approximatetly 1,000 slips and organized by stems, based upon Frank Speck's "Catawba Texts" (1934); and another (item X1.3, "Catawba vocabulary") by an unidentified compiler (possibly Frank Siebert), also based on Speck and unpublished materials.

Description: The Catawba materials in the Frank Siebert Papers are primarily concentrated in Series II. These consist of copies of secondary sources such as an "Indian Vocabulary from Fort Christanna, 1716, Catawba census notes, 1830-1929, land claim agreements, and a dictionary of Place names in South Carolina. Original materials include hundreds of pages of Siebert's FIeld notes and a Catawba vocabulary / dictionary done with Wes Taukchiray. There are also 14 sound recordings made with Sally Gordon in Series XII.

Description: The Cherokee materials in the Siebert Papers consist a moderate range of items relating mainly to the Cherokee language. In Series IV, there are articles by Blumer, Masthay, Speck, Strom about the Cherokee language, as well as one item labelled "Quapaw and Cherokee - Linguistic Notes." In Series V, see "Linguistic Notes, Quapaw and Cherokee" (different from the item in Series IV), "Polly Wildcat, Cherokee." In Series VI, see articles by Hale and Witthoft. In Series XI, there is one studio portrait of an unidentified Cherokee child.

Description: The Cree materials in the Siebert papers are all related to the language, mostly within Series IV and mostly articles collected by Siebert. They include vocabulary and grammatical materials. There are also 34 tapes of instructional materials in Swampy Cree and Moose Cree, in Series XII, which accompanied "Spoken Cree, west coast of James Bay" by C. Douglas Ellis (not digitized).

Description: The C. F. Voegelin Papers contain correspondence, card files, notes, notebooks, texts, translations, drafts, articles, maps, and other linguistic and ethnographic materials relating to Delaware (Lenape) language and culture. Many of these items pertain to Voegelin's "Walam Olum or Red Score: The Migration Legend of the Lenni Lenape or Delaware Indians," published by the Indiana Historical Society in 1954. Such materials are located in primarily in Subcollection I. There is relevant correspondence with Charles Hockett (with questions about Voegelin's article on Delaware and examples from other Algonquian languages), Eli Lilly (regarding various aspects of the Walam Olum, its interpretation and publication), Kenneth E.
