Description: The Downriver Halkomelem materials in the ACLS collection include 1 item in the "Chinook" section of the finding aid. This item is "Field notes on Chinookan and Salishan languages and Gitamat, Molala, and Masset" (Pn4b.5). Notebooks 3 and 4 include ethnographic and linguistic notes on "Lower Frasier" language, some of which was recorded with George Sts'ailes. Some of these notes are in German shorthand. In the "Nooksack" section of the finding aid, Smith's "Vocabularies in Nooksack and other Coast Salishan languages" (item S.8) consists of a comparative word list that includes "Muskokwim" (probably Musqueam) and Katzie. In the "Halkomelem" section of the finding aid, see "Nanaimo, Cowichan, and Lower Fraser materials" (item S2i.1).

Description: The Haida material in the ACLS collection consists of numerous materials that are primarily located in the "Haida" section of the finding aid. See this section for a complete listing. Prominent materials in this section includes Swanton's typescript draft versions of Haida stories from both Masset and Skidegate, recorded in 1900-1902 (items N1.4 and N1.5). These versions are in Haida only, with some handwritten annotations, corrections, and English titles. Many were published, though not all. Notably, these manuscript include the Haida version of stories published in English only in Swanton's "Haida Texts and Myths--Skidegate dialect". Also included in this section are lexical files by Boas, Sapir and an unidentified author derived from Boas and Swanton's materials (items N1.1, N1.2 and N1.7). In the "Athapaskan" section of the finding aid, see Sapir's "Comparative Na-Dene dictionary" (item Na20a.3), which includes extensive Haida material. In the "Chinook" section of the finding aid, see Boas' "Field notes on Chinookan and Salishan languages and Gitamat, Molala, and Masset" (item Pn4b.5), which includes vocabularies recorded in 1890, likely in Victoria, from a Haida speaker from Masset. Description: The Heiltsuk materials in the ACLS collection are located in the "Bella Bella" section of the finding aid, which contains a full listing. The majority of the materials were recorded or assembled by Franz Boas and George Hunt in the 1920s and consist predominantly of texts with interlinear translations (some in English only), linguistic notes, and lexical files. Description: The Ho-Chunk materials in the ACLS collection consists primarily of three items in the "Winnebago (Ho-Chunk)" section of the finding aid. The bulk of the material is Amelia Susman's 11 field notebooks (item X5.2), which contains texts with interlinear translation, Vocabularies, ethnographical and linguistic notes, and some songs. Two additional items also by Susman are extended analyses based upon field work with Sam Blowsnake and his unnamed wife: "The accentual system of Winnebago" (item X5.1) and "The Winnebago syllabary" (item X5.3). In the "Chiwere (Iowa)" section of the finding aid, Gordon Marsh's "Materials for a study of the Iowa Indian language" (item X4a.2) include some Ho-Chunk grammatical notes, and Ho-Chunk cognates with Chiwere. Lastly, in the "Dakota" section, Franz Boas' "Miscellaneous Dakota notes" (item X8a.3) includes a Dakota-Ho-Chunk comparative word list.

Description: The Hopi materials in the ACLS collection consist of materials primarily in the "Hopi" section of the finding aid. The earliest item is a brief word list recorded in 1915 by Edward Sapir (item U3a.4). The remaining items in this section are all by Benjamin Lee Whorf, including an initial linguistic report sent to Sapir, a grammatical sketch, an interlinear text on marriage customs, and a brief discussion of verb classes. In the "Bella Bella (Heiltsuk)" section of the finding aid, Boas' "Bella Bella suffix list" (item W1b.4) includes Hopi ethnographic materials on ceremony and religion written on the reverse side of sheets.

Description: This item is a Xerox copy of "Indian Myths and Legends from the North Pacific Coast of America," collected by Franz Boas, and translated from the original German into English by Dietrich Bertz. The material was originally published in a volume titled Indianische Sagen von der Nord-Pacifischen Küste Amerikas (Berlin, 1895), which compiled Boas's earliest research in British Columbia, including 250 First Nations myths and legends (translated from what are now recognized as at least a dozen different indigenous languages) which had previously appeared in German periodicals between 1891 and 1895. The final chapter contains Boas's structural analysis of the stories. Bertz translated the text for the British Columbia Indian Language Project in 1977. This version also has a short introduction by Claude Lévi-Strauss.

Description: The Inuit materials in the ACLS collection consist of several items in the "Eskimo" section of the finding aid. The core materials are Boas' fieldwork materials from Baffinland in 1883, his first fieldwork trip. "Eskimo ethnographic notes from Baffinland" (item 26) includes vocabulary, texts, and ethnographic notes. "Eskimo texts" (item E1a.1) includes several text written in syllabic script, and includes other texts as well, some with interlinear translations, and additional vocabulary lists. This material comes from Hamilton Inlet (Labrador), Hudson Bay, and Cumberland Sound. "Eskimo interlinear texts" (item E1a.2) includes brief additional texts. Boas' "Eskimo lexicon" (item E1a.3) consists of an extensive German-Inuit vocabulary file of over 2900 slips. Boas' "Eskimo Songs" (item E1a.4) consists of song texts with translations. Lastly, "Eskimo folklore" (item 32) consists of materials on stories, customs, and cooking and building methods, sent to Boas by George Comer, largely from the Southampton Island and Repulse Bay region.
