Description: The Lenape (or "Delaware") materials in the Siebert collection can be found in Series IV, V, VII. Original notes can be found in Series V: Notebooks, in the folders "Delaware Texts" and "Munsee Field Notes from Nicodemus Peters, Smoothtown, Six Nations' Reserve, Ontario" from 1938. Many of the other materials are from secondary sources. Of interest is geographic diversity of Delaware materials ranging from Willy Longbones in Oklahoma to the Munsee speakers in Ontario. There are also a number of Munsee recordings in Series XII.

Description: Several items relating to the Nahuatl language of the Nahua (Aztec) culture have been identified in the C. F. Voegelin Papers. They are mostly in Subcollection II. However, there is also relevant correspondence with Glen Turner in Subcollection I, Series I. Correspondence. Materials in Subcollection II include relevant correspondence with Kenneth Croft (regarding Croft's Nahuatl fieldwork in Mexico) and Antonio Garcia de Leon (a brief note in Spanish on Nahua work) in Series I. Correspondence; "Nahuatl" and "Zacapoaxtlateco (Nahuatl)" folders in Series II. Research Notes, Subseries IX. Uto-Aztecan, except Hopi. Nahuatl is also one of the languages Voegelin considered in a grammatical analysis of Uto-Aztecan languages. Drafts of seven chapters of this work can be found in Series III. Works by Voegelin, Subseries III: Uto-Aztecan book. There are five items in Series IV. Works by Others: Kenneth Croft's "Matlapa Nahuatl: Morpheme Shapes and Affix List," "Matlapa and Classical Nahuatl with Comparative Notes on the Two Dialects" (1953), and "Phonemics and Morphemics of Matlapa Nahuatl: With a Critical Bibliography Covering Six Decades of Nahuatl Linguistics" (1951); and Archibald McKinlay's "The Phonemes of Northern Puebla Aztec" (1944) and "The Tense-Aspect System of the Aztec of Northern Puebla." McKinlay's language community has been identified as Barrio de Xalacapan, Municipio de Zacapoaxtla, Puebla, Mexico. These are part of his report for Summer Institute of Linguistics, and include a cover letter from McKinlay to Voegelin. Finally, there is a box of Tetelcingo Nahuatl material (with Hopi comparison) containing 171 comparative vocabulary slips in Series V. Card Files.

Description: Several items relating to the Tübatulabal language have been identified in the C. F. Voegelin Papers. They are all in Subcollection II. There is relevant correspondence in the Linda Leopold file (from Voegelin to Eric Hamp regarding a circa 1976 visit to the same Tübatulabal community where he worked 45 years earlier) in Series I. Correspondence. There are seven folders of Tübatulabal materials in Series II. Research Notes, Subseries IX. Uto-Aztecan, except Hopi. These include notebooks, an inventory, an essay ("Tübatulabal: Analysis of Intersonantic Voiceless Stops in Tübatulabal"), a clipped newspaper article ("Happy Language Faces an Unhappy Future" (Los Angeles Times, 1971)--this item has been digitized and is available in the APS Digital Library), and miscellaneous notes. There is also a Tübatulabal story ("Coyote and the Women Hunters") in the California Indian Tales category in Series III. Works by Voegelin, Subseries II: American Indian Tales for Children. Tübatulabal is also one of the languages Voegelin considered in a grammatical analysis of Uto-Aztecan languages. Drafts of seven chapters of this work can be found in Series III. Works by Voegelin, Subseries III: Uto-Aztecan book. Finally, there are two items, both by James R. Jensen, in Series IV. Description: The Walter Dyk Collection consists of 16 folders relating to Dyk's dissertation research on Wishram, 1930-1933, donated to the APS by Dell Hymes in the 1980s (with additions transferred from the Dell H. Hymes Papers in 2019). It includes copies of his masters thesis (Chicago, 1931) and dissertation (Yale, 1933), papers and notes sent to Dell Hymes in the mid-1950s when Hymes was working on the language, including two field notebooks, Hymes' plans for use of these and other materials, and a small but important set of correspondence. The correspondence includes letters to Dyk from Philip Kahclamet, who was Dyk's primary consultant for "Kikct" (which Kahclamet identifies as a broad term for several related varieties), and who later worked with Hymes; from Edward Sapir to Dyk, including a very long and detailed letter commenting on phonology in Dyk's dissertation; and a series of letters to Sapir from Peter McGuff, Sapir's Wishram consultant at Fort Simcoe, Washington, 1906-1908. Sapir described him in Sapir (1909), and Michael Silverstein discussed him in Natural Histories of Discourse (1996), a volume co-edited by Silverstein and Greg Urban.
