The correspondents listed above contain some correspondence related to the culture or language listed in this entry. The most extensive correspondences are that of Andrade and Frachtenberg, concerning their linguistic and ethnographic field work. In the finding aid listings for some of these correspondents, the individual letters pertaining to this culture or language will be identified by a subject heading, though for some correspondents this indexing has not yet been completed. Some letters may contain only brief mentions of work being conducted in relation to the topic. Description: The Tillamook materials in the ACLS collection consist of 3 items in the "Tillamook" section of the finding aid and one in the "Chinook" section. Material in the "Tillamook" section includes materials collected in 1890 by Franz Boas (items S4.2 and S4.3), consisting of texts with interlinear translation, pencil corrections, mixed in with materials on Siletz and Nehelim, and material from May Edel (item S4.4), collected in 1935, consisting of a combined vocabulary containing words that she recorded, combined with those recorded earlier by Boas and Melville Jacobs. Material in the "Chinook" section consists of 2 notebooks (item S4.1), partially in shorthand, by Boas from 1890, with vocabularies and texts with interlinear translation, ethnographic notes in shorthand. A table of contents is included with notebooks, which also have Nehelim, Siletz, Chinookan, Wasco-Wishram, Klackamas, Clatsop, and Chinook information, along with physical notes on Songhees skulls from an earlier field work trip.

Description: The Unangan and Unangas materials in ACLS collection are located in the "Aleut" section of the finding aid and primarily consist of "Aleut texts" (item E2.1), recorded by Jochelson at Attu and Unalaska. These are untranslated, except for three, which have interlinear translation and notes. Also in this section is "Essay on the grammar of the Aleut language" (item E2.2) with Boas's corrections, and "Aleut Folklore" (item 69), an ethnography of the Unangan by an unidentified author, likely a student of Boas, based on study made of the Aleut texts of Vladimir Jochelson. Comparative folklore and abstracts of Aleut tales are included. In the "Yup'ik" section of the finding aid, also see Swadesh's "Unaaliq Eskimo vocabulary file" (item E1b.200), which contains comparisons with Aleut languages.

Description: The William Beynon Papers include correspondence with Franz Boas regarding his work on Tsimshian narratives, Boas' collection of the tale of Dzagagilace in 1888 and 1900, Benyon's work on a series of Hartley Bay stories and the Halait manuscript, Benyon's proposed work with Gitxsan. Beyon's texts include his work with the Tsimshian collecting stories such as the arrival of the first white man, the myth of the house of Temks, subdivisions within the Tsimsyen, most all interlinear translations. The collection also includes two manuscripts previously collected by Henry W. Tate and a manuscript by Irving Goldman discussing Boas' ethographic work on the Kwakwaka'wakw.

Description: The Zulu material in the ACLS collection consists of brief references scattered throughout items AfBnd.3 and AfBnd.4, "Ndau lexica and ethnographic slips" and "Texts on Ndau culture" in the "Non-American and non-linguistic material" section of the finding aid. The extent and subjects of the Zulu material have not been fully evaluated, but they are believed to have come from Simango's knowledge, typically with reference to Ndau (Chindau).
