Description: Materials prepared by French Sulpician missionaries in New France in the French and Ottawa [or Odawa] languages. Includes a petit catechisme, a literal, page-by-page translation into Ottawa of the "Catechisme des fetes principales de l'annee publie a Chartres par Etienne Massot le Jeune en 1683"; and "Racines de la langue 8ta8aise et algonquine," A to S only. The last 56 pages of the latter contain "Instructions sur les exhortations relatives aux commandements" while the cover reads "Instruction sur les symboles." Originals in Seminaire de Montreal, les Pretres de Saint-Sulpice.

Description: This small leather bound volume contains an essay by APS member Joseph Mandrillon, prepared for the Académie des sciences, belles-lettres et arts de Lyon. The essay discusses the discovery of America, early exploration, and colonization. It is written in French. Joseph Mandrillon was a French businessman and writer elected to the American Philosophical Society in 1785. This essay was printed, with slight changes, in Le Spectateur américain ou remarques générales sur l'Amérique septentrionale et sur la république des Treize États-Unis (Amsterdam, 1784).

Primarily contains outgoing letters from Stephen Laurent's wife, Margaret Fisher, to her family, and miscellaneous documentation relation to Laurent's activities as an interpreter of Abenaki history in New Hampshire. The main Abenaki language material in the collection is found in one catechism and prayer book in Abenaki from 1846 by Joseph Marrault, a Jesuit.
