Description: Audio recordings of interviews with Cree people on topics including Cree language, history, horses, wihtigo, thunderbirds, and other topics. The bulk of the interviews are with Stan Cuthand and Neal McLeod. The majority of the audio materials are interviews recorded in the context of producing radio documentaries for CBC Radio One from the early 1990s through late 2000s. Description: The Tuscarora materials in the ACLS collection consist mainly of two items in the "Tuscarora" section of the finding aid. Anthony Wallace's "Notes to accompany Tuscarora recordings" (item 72) accompany the audio collection "Tuscarora Material" (Mss.Rec.2), listed separately in this guide. These notes include some transcriptions and summaries of texts. Topics includes anecdotes, politics, genealogy and kinship terms, disease and magic, autobiographical stories, color perception, history and legend, and a reading of the Jefferson vocabulary. William Reyburn's "Tuscarora texts and word lists" corresponds to the audio collection "Tuscarora Indian Material" (Mss.Rec.9), listed separately in this guide. It includes interviews transcribed from recordings, and texts (including several versions of Crossing the Ice) with translations and vocabularies. In the "Iroquois" section, some information on Tuscarora speakers and language are found in Hickerson's "Material on Iroquois dialects" (item I1.3), a study of Iroquoian languages.

Field recordings made in Chiapas in Tzotzil communities including Chamula, Chenalhó, San Cristóbal de las Casas, and Zinacantán. These recordings include research conducted in relation to Bricker's book "Ritual Humor in Highland Chiapas." These include recordings of ritual humor and performances surrounding religious festivals, joke texts, songs, and Tzotzil language exercises.

Description: The materials in the Ruben Reina papers relating to the Zunil region of Guatemala are found primarily in Series V of the collection. This series consists of notes and photocopies of documents relating to the Zunil people of Guatemala. In 1969, Ruben Reina hired a local Zunil man, Francisco Quiej, to collect material--legends and stories--from the monolingual elders of Zunil. Quiej recorded the interviews, then translated the accounts from their original Quiche in to Spanish. Via a local priest, Quiej sent the transcripts to Reina. The original recordings no longer exist, but the surviving transcripts serve as an important historical record of the beliefs and experiences of a native Central American people. Included are legends, religious texts, and interviews with and biographies of community members. Additional miscellaneous materials may be found to lesser degrees in Series VI, VII, VIII, XI, and XII.
