Description: The Hopi materials in the Elsie Clews Parsons papers consist of a large amount of material found in several different section of the collection. In Subcollection I, Series II, "Notes, manuscripts, etc.", item 18 includes the notebooks of Alexander Stephen from 1885-1892; item 51 includes a significant number of photographs from Hopi communities from the period of 1918-1926; and items 46 and 61 also contain briefer manuscript materials relating to Hopi ceremonies. In Subcollection II, Series I, "Professional Correspondence", a number of Correspondences pertain to Hopi matters, particularly Parsons' correspondence with Franz Boas, Ruth Bunzel, Frederick Dellenbaugh, C. Daryll Forde, Robert H. Lowie, Leslie White, and Benjamin Whorf. In Subcollection II, Series III, "Lectures and Manuscripts", there are proofs and drafts related to Parsons' publication of Alexander Stephen's "Hopi Journal." In Subcollection II, Series IV, "Research Notes" there is a large number of Parsons' field notebooks from multiple visits to different Hopi communities. Description: The Mi'kmaq materials in the Elsie Clews Parsons papers consist primarily of field notebooks and related notes from Nova Scotia recorded in 1923. These are found in Subcollection II, Series IV, under "Nova Scotia." There are 10 field notebooks. Some of the earlier notebooks pertain not to Mi'kmaq people but to people of Gaelic and African descent who settled there. There may be portions of these notebooks that contain Mi'kmaq information. The later notebooks pertain to Mi'kmaq people from places including Mniku (Chapel Island), including one, Notebook 8, was written by a Mi'kmaw man named Peter Paul. There is also 1 photograph labelled "Sanlamuli, Chief of Rocky Point, Prince Edward Island," found in Subcollection II, Series IV, "Photographs and Scrapbooks."

Description: The Wampanoag materials in the Elsie Clews Parsons papers consist of one set of loose notes labelled "Martha's Vineyard - Notes," found in Subcollection II, Series IV, "Research Notes." These notes were recorded in 1919 from Lucina Jeffers (Wampanoag) of Aquinnah ("Gay Head"), who was aged 85 at the time. The notes concern folklore and customs on Martha's Vineyard and some genealogical information.

Description: The Zapotec materials in the Elsie Clews Parsons papers consist of materials in multiple sections of the finding aid. In Subcollection I, Series I, "Correspondence," see "Mitla, Town of Souls" and Parsons' "Letters in re. Mitla, Town of the Souls." In Subcollection I, Series II, "Notes, manuscripts, etc." the final notebook in "No. 11 Taos notebooks" is predominantly in Spanish and concerns fieldwork in Oaxaca among the Zapotec and other groups. Item "No. 19. Mitla journals" contains notebooks from Oaxaca, primarily concerning Zapotec matters. Item "No. 28. Mitla songs and photographs (Oaxaca region)" includes 14 songs, 183 photos, ca. 100 negatives of Oaxaca; 3 drawings and an article on Zapotec words; letter from E. D. Merrill to Franz Boas, May 13, 1930. Item "No. 53" contains a Zapotec-related newspaper clipping.
