Description: The Downriver Halkomelem materials in the ACLS collection include 1 item in the "Chinook" section of the finding aid. This item is "Field notes on Chinookan and Salishan languages and Gitamat, Molala, and Masset" (Pn4b.5). Notebooks 3 and 4 include ethnographic and linguistic notes on "Lower Frasier" language, some of which was recorded with George Sts'ailes. Some of these notes are in German shorthand. In the "Nooksack" section of the finding aid, Smith's "Vocabularies in Nooksack and other Coast Salishan languages" (item S.8) consists of a comparative word list that includes "Muskokwim" (probably Musqueam) and Katzie. In the "Halkomelem" section of the finding aid, see "Nanaimo, Cowichan, and Lower Fraser materials" (item S2i.1).

This typescript includes emendations of the manuscript, but does not include the vocabulary.

Description: The Inuit materials in the Franz Boas Professional Papers consist of approximately 11 folders, 3 diaries, 2 sketchbooks, and numerous maps and illustrations. Most of this material surrounds Boas' first fieldwork trip of his career to Baffin Island ("Baffinland") in 1883-1884. Under "Boas, Franz," most of this materials are labelled under "Arctic Expedition" or "Baffinland." These include Boas' diaries and sketchbooks, as well as typed translations of them. See also materials listed under "Weike, Wilhelm" for the diary of Boas' assistant during the expedition. The correspondence file for "Comer, George" contains additional information, as may other correspondence files.

Description: Materials from the Moravian Archives, Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. These papers include letters, reports, and journals relating to Indians, Moravian missions, and communities at Salem (N.C.), Bethlehem (Pa.), and Gnadenhütten, Muskingum, and Fairfield in Upper Canada. Also included are personal correspondence and an autobiography. Contains 86 letters, journals, reports, etc., pertaining to the travels and missionary activities of Heckewelder, mostly in German. Also includes 7 journals, memoranda, and miscellaneous materials of David Zeisberger, pertaining to his years with Indians. Many of the former materials were utilized and published by Paul A. W. Wallace (1958); the latter includes Zeisberger's Memoranda on Indians; Journey to the Six Nations (Haudenosaunee), Nanticokes and Shawanees (Shawnee) in April, 1752, to July, 1752; Conrad Weiser, Observations made on the pamphlet entitled "An enquiry ... [1759]"; Birth records for the 1780s at Friedenshutten and Gnadenhütten; Catalogue of Indians baptized by the United Brethren, 1765-1814 (721 names); and a memorandum of Zeisberger on the Onondaga.
