Description: The Kwakwaka'wakw materials in the Franz Boas Professional Papers consist of numerous folders containing Kwakwaka'wakw stories (some by George Hunt), notes on songs (much of it by the Namgis chief, Dan Cranmer), ethnographic and historical information, and linguistic notes on the Kwak'wala language. See items listed under "Boas, Franz -- Kwakiutl," for some materials, including those by Dan Cranmer. Under "Hunt, George - Kwakiutl," there are notebooks and texts, including 6 texts in Boas's hand in Kwak'wala with English interlinear translation. These includes "Host Speech for great great feast," two texts on "Supernatural Experience" and marriage told by Mrs. George Hunt, and Hë'mănis told by Gi'galas (Gwawa'enuxw), with revised version written by George Hunt. Finally, see the folder labeled "Kwakiutl material (on names)," which contains lists of names of plants, birds, specific people, positions, coppers, and other matters, primarily provided by Dan Cranmer.

Description: Tlingit recordings made in Yakutat, Alaska (Tapes 1-7); Ahtna recordings made at Chitina, Tazlina, and Chistochina (Tape 8 - Tape 10, track 22); Southern Tutchone recordings made at Klukshu, Yukon Territory (Tape 10, tracks 23-31). Includes personal songs, mourning songs, drinking songs, love songs, shaman songs, and children's songs. Recordings from Yakutat called "Aleut" are of Sugpiaq Chugachmiut origin. Collection formerly titled "Tlingit and Yakutat songs." Renamed in October 2019 to clarify presence of recordings from other communities. Description: The Tlingit materials in the ACLS collection are concentrated primarily in the "Tlingit" section of the finding aid. Most items within this section are Frederica de Laguna's detailed notes related to her audio recordings made at Yakutat. See separate guide entries for collections "Recordings at Yakutat, Alaska" (Mss.Rec.19) and "Tlingit, Ahtna, and Southern Tutchone recordings" (Mss.Rec.30). This section also includes Sapir's extensive "Comparative Na-Dene dictionary" (item Na20a.3) and "Chilcat vocabulary" (item N2.2), and Swanton's Tlingit and Haida field notebooks from 1900-1901 (item N2.1).
