Description: The Apinayé materials in the Lounsbury collection consist of materials in two sections. Series I contains correspondence with Dell Hymes, concerning a manuscript in German on the Apinayé by Curt Nimuendajú, and with Carol Schilling and David Schneider. In Series II, in the "South America" sub-series, there are four folders beginning "Apinayé" by Lounsbury, mainly on kinship terminology.

Description: The majority of the Batak materials in the Floyd Lounsbury Papers are in Series II, Kinship subseries, under the title "Batak Kin Classification and Behavior", which documents the proceedings and results of a graduate school seminar on the structural analysis of systems of Toba Batak kin classification and behavior, held at Yale University in 1966. This includes transcripts and resultant papers. In Series I, correspondence with Benda and Bruner also discusses Batak kinship, dictionaries, fieldwork, and the M.A. thesis of Ihromi-Simatupang (who was Batak).

Description: There are some materials relating to Iroquoian languages in the C. F. Voegelin Papers. This entry is intended as a catch-all for materials labeled as "Iroquois" or "Iroquoian." Researchers should also view the entries for specific Iroquoian languages and culture groups (i.e., Oneida, Seneca, Cherokee). Iroquoian materials are located in both Subcollection I and Subcollection II. In Subcollection I, there is relevant correspondence with Floyd Lounsbury (regarding Oneida, Seneca, and Cherokee work) and Herman B Wells (to William Fenton regarding sending Voegelin to the Iroquois Conference accompanied by slips of notes including potential language consultants including Leroy Cooper, Sherman and Clara Red Eye, Jesse Cornplanter, and Will Bomberry) in Series I. Correspondence; and one folder each of Iroquois (an exam bluebook containing notes on Iroquois history, documentary sources, and some words) and Siouan-Iroquois material (a word list) in Series V. Description: Pawnee materials in the Floyd Lounsbury Papers mostly concern semantic analysis of their kinship system as documented by Lewis Henry Morgan in Genoa, Nebraska, which Lounsbury published as an article titled "A Semantic Analysis of the Pawnee Kinship Usage" in the journal Language. An offprint of this with marginalia and notes can be found in Series II, Kinship subseries. In the same subseries see folders "Measures of Kinship Distance", "Miscellaneous Notes" (which contains the kinship terms from Morgan), and "Pawnee" (which includes kinship terms from others). Series III contains "Key to Morgan. On Pawnee" and "Miscellaneous linguistic and semantic notes resulting from early stages of Pawnee paper". Most relevant correspondence (Series I) concerns reprinting the article, but notable other correspondence on Pawnee is with Grace, Haas, Lane, Lesser, and Schneider.

Description: The term "Wintukwa" is used in two places within the finding aid. It may be more correctly Arhuaco, but the material has not been properly assessed. In Series II is a set of notes on kinship terms, titled "Wintukwa (Chibchan) Kinship Terms". The correspondence, in Series I, includes Johannes Wilbert's plans for a revised Ge dictionary and his kinship studies of the "Wintukwa".
