Description: Materials relating to Speck's interest in Tuscarora language, history, and culture. Includes Speck's reading notes on New York State Tuscarora including an undated page of Mattawascheet notes and a 1930s letter to Speck from Alfred Irving Hallowell concerning Nanticoke and Tuscarora; four pages of geographical terms secured at Six Nations Reserve labeled "Canadian Tuscarora Words"; and a folder labeled "Notes on Canadian Tuscarora," which includes names for the Nanticokes in Cayuga, Tuscarora, Mohawk, Seneca, Onondaga, and Oneida; notes on wampum, folklore, and the Canadian Tuscarora; and some Nanticoke vocabulary.

Description: Between 1992 and 1993 especially, William Bright made audio recordings of Ute vocabulary (especially place names) (Series 6), some of which is documented in a field notebook (Series 3 Subseries 1), and contributed orthography recommendations to the Southern Ute tribe (Series 4). Among other correspondence, Bright had a version of J. P. Harrington's Chemehuevi noun list, edited by Kenneth Hill, as part of assorted materials relating to Harrington's fieldwork (Series 1), as well as the pamphlet "The Chemehuevi Indians of Southern California" (Ronald Dean and Peggy Jeanne Miller, 1967, published by the Malki Museum Press).

Description: The Wailaki materials in the ACLS collection consist mainly of Goddard's 10 field notebooks (item Na20c.1) in the "Wailaki" section of the finding aid. These consist mainly of texts with interlinear material on place names, with reference to an enclosed hand-drawn map, and information on deer hunting. Additional materials can be found in the "Hupa" section of the finding aid among Goddard's "Field notes in California Athabascan languages" (item Na.3), which includes additional Wailaki stories of undetermined extent, and in Goddard's "Hupa materials" (item Na20a.2), which include some Wailaki texts.

Description: The Wasco-Wishram materials in the ACLS collection are in multiple sections of the finding aid. The largest single item is a multi-part lexical file of over 22,000 cards including vocabulary, paradigms, and other linguistic data, assembled from the work of Sapir, Dyk, and Hymes, in the "Wasco" section (item Pn4a.10). These appear to be copied from originals, the location of which is not known. The "Wishram" section contains several short files including on Wishram place names, Wishram directional elements, grammatical notes, and ethnographic notes. In the "Chinook" section, see Boas' "Field notes on Chinookan and Salishan languages and Gitamat, Molala, and Masset" (item Pn4b.5), notebooks 1 and 2 of which include Wasco texts and vocabulary recorded in 1890. "Field notes on Tillamook and Chinookan dialects" (item S4.1) also includes additional vocabularies and texts. The "Chinook" section may contain additional Wasco-Wishram materials not presently distinguished from other Chinookan language materials.
