Description: The Kickapoo materials in the ACLS collection consist of two items. The first is a brief vocabulary in the "Kickapoo" section of the finding aid (item A1c.1, "Kickapoo vocabulary") that was recorded by Morris Swadesh in Mexico in 1940. The other item is Joe Pierce's "Shawnee, Kickapoo, Ojibwa, Sauk-and-Fox materials" (item A1c.2) located in the "Ojibwa" section of the finding aid, which consists of linguistic materials and analysis comparing these languages.

Description: The Anthony F. C. Wallace Papers are a vast collection of materials relating to Wallace's work at the intersection of anthropology, psychology, and history. See the finding aid for a detailed discussion of Wallace's long and varied career, and for an itemized list of the collection's contents. Though further research might yield more results, five items directly relating to Kickapoos have been identified. All concern Wallace's work as a researcher and expert witness on behalf of Native American land claims. In Series IX. Indian Claims, there are two folders dated to 1951 labeled "Kickapoo Indians--Kickapoo Tribe of Kansas, the Kickapoo Tribe of Oklahoma, the Kickapoo Nation, et. al. vs. the United States of America, Docket No. 194 and Trial Memorandum" and "Kickapoo Indians--Kickapoo Tribe of Kansas, the Kickapoo Tribe of Oklahoma, the Kickapoo Nation, et. al. vs. the United States of America, Dockets 315 and 317" and two undated folders labeled "Kickapoo Indians--Notes," and "Kickapoo Indians--Tribal Histories." Description: During Haas' residence in Eufaula, Oklahoma, Haas recorded a variety of languages spoken in the area, including a small amount of Kickapoo. Original field notes can be found in Series 2 Subseries ‘Multiple Languages', and includes a basic lexicon and imperative and interrogative verbs. Haas received lexica from Douglas Parks, who worked with consultant Alice Abraham in Shawnee, Oklahoma, and it is possible that Haas also visited Alice Abraham. These are represented in Series 2 Subseries ‘Kickapoo' and ‘Multiple Languages', and as card files in Series 9. She also received original and photocopied field notes from Paul H. Voorhis, consisting of a 174-item lexicon with associated words and phrases, in Series 2 Subseries ‘Kickapoo'.

Description: Materials relating to James M. Crawford's interest in and study of the Kiliwa language. Items include card-sized paper slips, Kiliwa-English and English-Kiliwa, with pencilled notes, in Series V. drafts (with edits), handwritten notes, and page proofs of Crawford's review of "Kiliwa Dictionary" by Mauricio J. Mixco [1986] in Series III-D. Works by Crawford--Other; and a 1958 Kiliwa Word List in Series IV-D. Research Notes & Notebooks--Other, which consists of five pages of typed words in English (sometimes also Spanish) with handwritten Kiliwa equivalents. The language consultant was Rufino Uchurte, aged 63, resident of Arroyo Leon, half Paipai and half Kiliwa, and speaker of both languages. Recorder was anthropologist and linguist Judith Joël Hicks. Series I. Correspondence also contains a postcard from Dwight Good with a brief query about an unknown people compared to Kiliwa.

See materials listed under Charles Brant and William C. Meadows. The Brant material consists of 3 reprints of articles by Brant that appeared in the Southwestern Journal of Anthropology in 1949-1953. The Meadows material is his "Ethnohistorical Research on Southern Plains Military Societies," which partially concerns Kiowa Apache socieities such as the Manatidie/Blackfeet Society and includes transcripts summarizing interviews found in a related audio collection.

Description: Two items relating to the Kiowa language have been identified in the C. F. Voegelin Papers. They are both in Subcollection II. One is a small subseries in Series II. Research Notes, Subseries VII. Kiowa-Tanoan, which contains primarily Towa (Jemez), Tiwa (Taos), and Tewa (Santa Clara and Hopi-Tewa) materials. The other consists of eight Kiowa stories (several featuring Sendeh) in the Plains Indian Tales category in Series III. Works by Voegelin, Subseries II: American Indian Tales for Children. Researchers might also be interested in viewing the entries for other Tanoan languages.
