Description: The Oneida materials in the Lounsbury Papers include photographs in Series I. Series II contains plays and songs from the WPA Oneida Language Project and the Workers Alliance of the Oneida Indian Council. Also of interest are an Oneida dictionary by Mercy Doxtator, et al., a field notebook by Martin Joos, and Lounsbury's work on an Oneida dictionary. There are an abundance of recordings in Series VII including "Dekanawidah" as told by Demus Elm; the "opening" of the Thanksgiving address; sixteen conversations in Oneida; music. Description: The Onondaga materials in the Lounsbury collection include a French-Onondaga from 1860 in Series II. There are numerous audio recordings including that of a Condolence Ceremony and the Feast of the White Dog (Guy-wee-oo) in Series VII. (These recordings are restricted due to cultural sensitivity.) The correspondence, in Series I, includes Harold Blau's mention of a recording in Onondaga of part of Handsome Lake's code, William Fenton's work with Howard Sky on the Goldenweiser version of the Great Law of Peace in Onondaga, Michael Foster's description of collecting versions of the Thanksgiving Address in Onondaga, Cara Richards on Onondaga recordings.

Description: The Patwin materials in the ACLS collection consist of 4 items in the "Patwin" section of the finding aid. Jaime de Angulo's "The Patwin language" (item P4b.1-4) consists of analyses phonology and morphology; semasiology (semantically arranged vocabularies), conversation, and autobiography, all relating to the Colusa dialect. Three items by Radin include a Patwin-English dictionary (item P4b.5), a set of ethnographic and folkloristic stories (item P4b.6-7), and a sketch of Patwin grammar (item P4b.8).

Description: The Penobscot materials in the Frank Siebert Papers are concentrated in Series III. Siebert collected census material, treaties and treaty minutes, placenames, with a strong representation of songs, stories, and linguistic materials. There are detailed notes about Indian claims in Maine and genealogical information. There are also educational materials for the teaching of the Penobscot language as well as a wealth of information on Penobscot linguistics. Series V, Siebert's notebooks, have extensive grammatical, phonetic, and vocabulary of the Penobscot language. Both Series III and V reflect Siebert's deep interest in the history of Maine and the Eastern Abenaki including archaeological, pre-history, and colonial era documents such as the Eliot Bible, which Siebert owned a rare copy in his library, which was sold at auction. Series VI and VII contain various drafts of essays on Penobscot culture, language, and history. Series XI contains 5 related photos of Louis Lolar, taken in 1933. Series XII contains approximately 3 hours of Penobscot language recordings, primarily from the 1930s and 1950s.

Description: The Pomo materials in the ACLS collection consist of materials by Jaime de Angulo are primarily found in the "Pomo" section of the finding aid. This section includes 4 items, including "The reminiscences of a Pomo chief" (item H5.3), which contains an autobiography of William Ralganal Benson, dictated in the Yukaya dialect, along with grammatical notes. Additional items (H5.1, H5.2 and H5.4) include grammatical and other linguistic studies by de Angulo. In the "Achumawi" section, the first two items (H.1 and H.2) contain comparisons of Pomo with Achumawi to determine their relationship and clarify the theoretical Hokan language family.

Description: The Quileute collection in the ACLS collection consists of a large body of materials located primarily in the "Quileute" section of the finding aid. These materials were recorded primarily by Albert Reagan, Leo Frachtenberg, and Manuel Andrade. Reagan was an Indian agent and teacher at the Quileute Day School. His materials (item W3a.10, "Quileute ethnology"), dated from 1908-1913, primarily include drawing made by students at the Quileute Day School. These images include pencil and ink sketches, color crayon drawings, watercolors, and gelatin silver prints of utensils, canoes, drums, rattles, toys, arrows, masks, totems, and decorative patterns. Frachtenberg's materials date from roughly 1915 to 1922 and contain detailed ethnographic and linguistic information, split up into several different listed items. Andrade's work followed shortly after Frachtenberg and concerns primarily linguistic information and additional stories. Arthur Howeattle is a prominent Quileute consultant for some of these items. Some additional materials comparing the Quileute and Chemakum languages can be found in the "Chimakum" section of the finding aid (items W3b.1, W3b.2, and W3b.4), as well as comparisons of Quileute and Nuu-chah-nulth in the "Nootka" section of the finding aid (item W2a.13).

Description: Fieldnotes across the Plateau region, especially in Pendleton OR (near the Umatilla Reservation), Nespelem WA (in the Colville Reservation), and Toppenish WA (Yakama Reservation), between 1963 and 1969, supplemented by materials collected from other recent secondary sources. Copies held by the APS were privately microfilmed by Bruce Rigsby; the APS does not possess the originals. Notebooks 1-8 mostly represent work at and around the Umatilla Reservation in 1963, and notebooks 9-18 were recorded mostly near the Colville and Yakama reservations, 1964 onwards. The notebooks contain elicited lexica, with some texts, and details on the knowledge and use of languages by specific individuals. The loose notes at the end are mostly texts. A full inventory of the notebooks and notes, with individual contributor, place and language information, is in the collection finding aid.

Description: The majority of the Virginia D. Hymes Papers relate to her work on the Warm Springs Reservation. This includes all or most of Series I, II, III and V. Series V (Card Files) contains around 35000 lexical files compiled by Hymes as well as David and Kay French and an unidentified researcher. Series III (Research Files) contains fieldnotes, texts and dictionary files. Series I (Correspondence) and IV (Works by Others) also mostly relate to Sahaptin research by others, including Bruce Rigsby (Yakima and Umatilla Sahaptin), Virginia Beavert, and Eugene Hunn.

Works by Voegelin, Subseries III-B: Works Authored by Voegelin; a folder of Seneca linguistic notes in Series V. Research Notes, Subseries V-A: Language Notes; 7 folders of unbound Seneca texts and grammatical notes in Series V. Research Notes, Subseries V-B: Text; and 2 folders of Seneca notebooks in Series VI. Notebooks. Each of the latter two folders contains one of Voegelin's field notebooks, only partially full, and identify Leroy Cooper as his consultant.
