Description: The Catawba materials in the Frank Siebert Papers are primarily concentrated in Series II. These consist of copies of secondary sources such as an "Indian Vocabulary from Fort Christanna, 1716, Catawba census notes, 1830-1929, land claim agreements, and a dictionary of Place names in South Carolina. Original materials include hundreds of pages of Siebert's FIeld notes and a Catawba vocabulary / dictionary done with Wes Taukchiray. There are also 14 sound recordings made with Sally Gordon in Series XII.

Description: Materials relating to Radin's study of Ho-Chunk (Winnebago) history, culture, and language. Some items are written in Ho-Chunk, with and without English translations. This large collection includes 34 original field notebooks; numerous short and long stories (Hare cycle, Aleck Linetree [probably Alec Lone Tree], the origin of the Buffalo clan, the story of the holy one, the boy who wished to be immortal, etc.); several longer pieces, such as a typed manuscript titled "The legend of Mother-of-all-the-Earth," speeches of Charlie Houghton, multiple versions of "How Blowsnake joined the medicine dance," "Origin myth of the medicine dance," etc.; several published secondary sources; over 3,000 slips for an English-Winnebago [i.e. Ho-Chunk] dictionary and other items relating to Ho-Chunk phonetics, lexicon, linguistics, etc.; several phonetic texts, some with English translation; and a variety of other items with ethnographic, historical, and linguistic data pertaining to ceremonies, tales, clans, medicine, origins, dance, burial, peyote, names, and sweat-baths. Topics include George Antoine Belcourt's French-Ojibwe dictionary, particularly plans for its the presentation of Belcourt's memoir by the Smithsonian; a recent fire at the Smithsonian requiring $200,000 in repair work; Edwin James' Chippewa New Testament and his desire to publish a Chippewa grammar under the auspices of the APS; Walter James Hoffman's work at White Earth, Minnesota, where observed the Grand Medicine (Medawin) dance in detail and collected pictographic records of same on birch bark; Thomas L. Description: The Patwin materials in the Harvey Pitkin Papers include notebooks, notes, vocabularies, slip files, texts, manuscripts and tracings by A.M. Halpern, Paul Radin, A.L. Kroeber, T.T. Waterman, Donald Ultan, and Howard Wilson, along with pencil sketches by Patwin people in Subcollection I, Series I, Series I-A. There are two dictionaries, by Paul Radin and Donald Ultan in Subcollection I, Series I, Series I-B. Series I-C contains linguistic materials collected by Jaime de Angulo, Kroeber, and Waterman. Series I-D contains Pitkin's work with using a krmograph to create phonetic tracings. Subcollection I, Series II-A includes linguistic work done by Elizabeth Bright, Waterman. Subseries 4-C in Subcollection II includes fieldwork done by Pitkin comparing Patin to Wintu and Nomlaki as well as FIeld notes by Morris Swadesh, nineteen unpublished Vocabularies collected by Pitkin, Jaime de Angulo, Mary Haas, Sally McLendon, Mary Bright, Donald Ultan, and Radin. Subseries 5 contains an index to Radin's work on Patwin as well as Pitkin's work on Proto-Wintu and William Bright's worker wtih the speaker Minnie Bill.
