Description: The Kaska materials in the ACLS Collection consists of two printed maps of British Columbia and adjacent regions with extensive handwritten annotations by James Teit, showing his understanding of Indigenous territories at the time. Kaska areas are noted among these. The two maps are titled, "Map showing as near as possible Location of the Shuswap Tribe and Divisions, with approximate Boundaries of neighboring Tribes" and Map (3) showing present or late and also former distributions of northern tribes. In addition, the item "Songs from the Salish area" contains typewritten and handwritten notes on 80+ songs recording on wax cylinders, collected for and sent to the National Museum of Canada, among which some are Kaska.

Description: The Kaska materials in the Franz Boas Papers consist of 21 letters among the correspondence between Boas and James Teit that mention Kaska people or language to some extent. The length of the mentions range from very brief to more substantial. Many relate to Teit's travels in northern British Columbia and southern Yukon region on ethnographic field trips or as a hunting guide. The majority of the letters date from 1916 to 1919. Other mentions of Kaska people or language may exist elsewhere in this collection but are not known.
