One microfilm reel of the papers of the Lancaster physician, Edward Hand, for the years 1777-1788. Hand was active in organizing the Lancaster County Associators and was promoted in 1777 to the rank of brigadier general. He was dispatched to Western Pennsylvania to mobilize the militia against Native peoples and Tories. Late in 1778, he assumed command at Albany and aided Sullivan’s Campaign against the Haudenosaunee in 1779. The extent of letters in this collection pertaining to his military activities against Native peoples has not yet been determined. Originals are in the Pennsylvania State Archives.
