Benjamin Smith Lyman was a geologist and amateur linguist who worked in Japan at the end of the 19th century. During this time he authored and collected several manuscripts and printed materials on (and possibly in) the Ainu language. These items have not been assessed for content, but are in Series VI. Writings and Research Files, Subseries 6. Linguistics and 7. Asian Culture, described with the name "Aino". Additional materials identified as Japanese may also be about Ainu.
