Description: The C. F. Voegelin Papers contain notes, notebooks, stories, photographs, and other linguistic and ethnographic materials relating to Potawatomi (Pottowatomi) language and culture. These are located in both Subcollection I and Subcollection II of the Voegelin Papers. Materials in Subcollection I include relevant correspondence with Eli Lilly (regarding the discovery of inscribed stones and their possible meaning; see photographs referenced below) in Series I. Correspondence; a folder of Ojibwa [Ojibwe] and Pottowatomi [Potawatomi] comparative vocabularies in Series V. Research Notes, Subseries V-A: Language Notes; a folder of three undated "Pottowatomi" notebooks containing texts (with some English translation) and mentioning consultants Smallman Isaac, William George, and William Soney in Series VI. Notebooks; and two images of stones inscribed with Potawatomi petroglyphs, from Elkhart, Indiana, in Series VII. Photographs. These images have been digitized and are available through the APS's Digital Library. In Subcollection II, there are Potawatomi stories in the Eastern Woodland category in Series III. Description: The Tarascan materials in the ACLS collection consists of items found in the "Tarascan" section of the finding aid. "Tarascan ethnologic and linguistic notes" (item Ta.2) contains linguistic forms, terms for parents, vocabulary of 600 items, list of names of natural and cultural objects, and interviews and material on land division and agriculture. There is also a Purépecha-Spanish lexical file of over 1000 word slips (item Ta.1), plus brief additional writings (items Ta.3 and Ta.4), including a handbook for writing the language. In the “Mexico” section of the finding aid, see “Comparative vocabularies of various Indian languages of Mexico” (item AM5), which includes Purépecha vocabulary.

Description: This is a comparative vocabulary of the Mi'kmaq (Micmac), Innu-aimun (Montagnais, "Mountaineer"), and Naskapi ("Skoffie") languages. It includes Mi'kmaq prayers and a dictionary of Mi'kmaq pictographs. The latter includes 288 ink sketch pictographs of the Mi'kmaq language presented by Gabriel, an Innu man ("Mountaineer Indian,") and transcribed by Thomas Pierronet in 1797. Includes three Christian prayers in pictorial sentences.

Description: Beginning with his college life as an undergraduate at Harvard (1905-1906), Morley's diaries continue through his earliest travels and explorations of Central America (1907-1944), with information on the study of Mayan hieroglyphs, publications, the study of Central American ruins, and the manners and customs of the native people. Five volumes are devoted to four separate archaeological expeditions: Copan expedition (1937), Uxmal expedition (1941-1942), Central American expedition (1944), and Guatemala and Honduras expedition (1947). Formal and detailed field notes form the bulk of Morley's archaeological work. Includes 106 ink sketches and 105 pencil sketches by archaeologist Sylvanus Morley to illustrate his excavation descriptions of Mayan sites in Yaxchilan (1931), Calakmul (1932), Copan (1937, 1947), and Uxmal (1941-42). Primarily Mayan glyphs, images include diagrams of stairways, pyramids, and ball courts. Originals at Peabody Museum, Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Henry's related "Tarahumara materials" (item U6a.3) includes a diverse set of items, including word lists, a draft dictionary, additional texts, a Spanish-Tarahumara newsletter, and a "Cartilla Tarahumara de Lectura" with photomechanical prints depicting housing, utensils, clothing, and social customs.
