Includes dance songs, sorry songs, potlatch songs, sleep doctor songs, and others. Includes "Gulkana Potlatch Given by Bill Joe and Kate Sanford for Recovery of Maggie Joe from Illness." Some songs are Tlingit, Upper Tanana, or Tanacross in origin. Includes Ahtna stories, autobiographical accounts, vocabularies, and interviews, as well as a few Southern Tutchone songs recorded at Burwash Landing, Yukon Territory. Also includes Tetlin potlatch songs recorded in 1966.

Description: Interviews and discussions with the Seneca artist Ernest Smith on his paintings of Seneca customs, stories, ceremonies, crafts, food preparation, and other traditional ways. Smith was a Seneca from the Tonawanda Reservation in New York state. The paintings were done in the 1930s and are presently in the Rochester Museum and Science Center in Rochester, New York. The recordings were made by William N. Fenton and his student, Jeanette Collamer, in 1973 at the museum in Rochester. The paintings are referred to on the recordings by the museum's catalog numbers for the paintings. Some of the paintings do not have assigned titles. Sound quality is fair overall, with severe distortion and prominent background noise on the final tape. Some of the recordings are restricted due to potential cultural sensitivity.

Description: This collection consists of audio recordings of Larry Aitken (Bezhigoogahbow), a distinguished Ojibwe elder, teacher, and traditional knowledge keeper of Leech Lake, Minnesota. The recordings include numerous public speeches, classroom lectures and discussions, and interviews on Anishinaabe spiritual teachings, health, psychology, cultural strength, history, and language. A number of recordings were made with Aitken's teacher, Jim Jackson, a medicine man and traditional knowledge keeper with whom Aitken worked for 17 years.

Description: This program consists of primarily of recordings converting Robert C. Hollow's Mandan dictionary into Hidatsa with the assistance of speaker James Driver. Most of the recordings consist of a Hidatsa word list elicited by the reading of English terms and phrases from the Mandan-English section of Robert C. Hollow's Mandan dictionary. The Mandan equivalents from the dictionary are infrequently given. Includes occasional discussion of context and usage of given words, as well as occasional comments on Hidatsa social life and customs. Also includes recordings analyzing the "Sacred Arrow Myth" that Bowers recorded with Sam Newman in Hidatsa in July 1932. James Driver also gives several narratives in Hidatsa on "Trip with Paul Ewald to family graves," "Data on tribal lands," "History of the Catholic Mission," and "Traveling to Minot," which in part concerns the Influenza Epidemic of 1918-1919. Description: Primarily consists of autobiographical stories, creation stories, and medicine stories collected by Alfred W. Bowers in earlier decades. The stories are read in segments in Bowers' English translation to two native consultants, who then translate the material into both Mandan and Hidatsa, or occasionally into either Mandan or Hidatsa alone. A small number of stories are told in Mandan only. Also includes English discussions of the Mandan and Hidatsa domestic life, material culture, personal reminscences, and histories of the Crow-Flies-High Band and the Fort Buford and Fort Berthold settlements. Description: Nahuatl Texts, recorded on phonograph discs by Robert Barlow circa 1949, in Milpa Alta, Mexico. Stories given entirely in untranslated Nahuatl, with the exception of two stories given in Spanish. Almost all stories are given by Luz Jimenez. The identifiable texts include a story about the Mexican Day of the Dead holiday and the mountain Popocatepetl. Also includes one Yaqui song and one text that may be in a Totonac language. There is occasional prominent cracking and hissing background noise on the recording.
