Description: Two items relating to the Cheyenne language have been identified in the C. F. Voegelin Papers. They are both located in Subcollection II. They consist of Voegelin's correspondence with Kenneth Croft (regarding Croft's Cheyenne materials, which he deposited at APS and distributed among individuals after he moved on to Nahuatl) in Series I. Correspondence; and a Cheyenne folder containing a 1950 letter from Croft, a brief grammatical sketch, transcriptions of words from tape recordings [possibly from Croft's audio recordings also deposited at the APS and available through the Digital Library], and a 2-page typewritten story in Cheyenne and English ("My Grandfather's Advice") in Series II. Description: The Chilula materials in the ACLS collection consist of two sets of notebooks located in the "Chilula" section of the finding aid, both recorded by Pliny Goddard. A set of 5 notebooks recorded at Redwood Creek (item Na20g.1) includes lexical items, texts (translated and untranslated) includings one text and narration on geographical features, plus information on material culture. 1 Kato item is included. A separate set of 4 notebooks recorded at Bald Hills (item Na20g.2) includes data on village sites, material culture, an "Indian encounter" near Fort Seward, and texts with interlinear translations. Consultants are not yet identified.

Description: The Chinanteco material in the ACLS collections are primarily found in the "Chinanteco" section of the finding aid. Two items are stories (Ch.1 and Ch.2, "El perrito de Teotitlan" and "Cuento del pescador", which identifies Yolox and Yetla varieties) recorded by Jaime de Angulo, with Spanish and English translation. Another item (Ch.3) is a 64-word Spanish-Chinantec vocabulary recorded by Norman McQuown. Two items in the "Mexico" section of the finding aid (items AM3 "Phonemic systems of various Indian languages of Mexico" and AM5 "Comparative vocabularies of various Indian languages of Mexico") contain comparative vocabularies that include Chinantec, as do two items in the "Mixtec" section (items MiM.1 "Mixtec tones and morphological comments" and MiM.2 "Mixtec and Chinantec lexicon", varieties of Mixtec unidentified), and "Zapotecan texts" (item Z.3) in the "Zapotec" section. The identification of varieties of Chinantec in most of the materials is undetermined.
