Description: The Cayuga materials in the Lounsbury Papers are located primarily in the "Cayuga" section of Series II, which contains extensive field notes and transcriptions made by both Lounsbury and Michael Foster of Cayuga stories and speeches given by Alexander General, Howard Skye, and Mrs. George Green, along with related discussions. See also Series VII, Audio Recordings, which includes some recordings featuring the Thanksgiving Address and the Condolence ceremony. See also correspondence in Series I, which includes Michael K. Description: Materials relating to James M. Crawford's interest in and study of the Cherokee language. Cherokee materials in the Crawford Papers consist of 3 folders located in Series IV-D, Research Notes & Notebooks--Other. "Cherokee--Notebook" contains a field notebook of linguistic materials dated to winter 1972-1973. Cherokee language consultants mentioned include Laura King, Mrs. Schweder, Ann Squirrel, and Gil Jackson. University of Georgia graduate students mentioned include Duane King, V. Richard Persico, and Jared Harper. "Cherokee Phonology" contains a draft, both typed and handwritten, of Duane H. King's manuscript of the same name, focusing on the Qualla dialect and based on research undertaken as part of Crawford's Southeast Indian Languages Project with support from the National Science Foundation. Qualla-speaking Cherokee consultants were Annie Jesson and Laura Hill. There are also three pages of Crawford's comments on the draft and five slips of errata. "Cherokee, NC Trip" contains 5 pages of notes relating to a trip Crawford apparently took with Duane King May 15-May 17, 1972, and includes one page of directions with a sketched map, one page of expense accounts, and three pages of linguistic notes from Annie A. Jesson.

Description: The Haudenosaunee materials in the Lounsbury Papers are vast in scope ranging from ceremonial recordings in Series VII to secondary sources in Series II to Lounsbury's own linguistic work among the Haudenosaunee (see notes on Mohawk, Cayuga, Seneca, Oneida, and Onondaga materials). The correspondence, in Series I, includes notes by Marius Barbeau on six Iroquoian language varieties, a recording of the Condolence Ceremony recited by George Thomas, Gordon Day's work on Iroquois place names in Vermont, William Fenton's work on Iroquois-Cherokee linguistic relations, a manuscript of Mary Haas' comments on FGL's "Iroquois-Cherokee Linguistic Relations," George Harnell's work on Iroquois culture, Gunther Michelson's work on Iroquois place names, James Pendergast's study of longhouse construction and LaSalle's 1669-1670, Morris Swadesh's notes on the Caughnawaga Iroquois in Brooklyn, NY, Elisabeth Tooker on Iroquois cosmology, a manuscript of Iroquois grammar by Carl Voeglin, William Wykoff's study of Iroquois prehistory.

Description: The Lenape (or "Delaware") materials in the Siebert collection can be found in Series IV, V, VII. Original notes can be found in Series V: Notebooks, in the folders "Delaware Texts" and "Munsee Field Notes from Nicodemus Peters, Smoothtown, Six Nations' Reserve, Ontario" from 1938. Many of the other materials are from secondary sources. Of interest is geographic diversity of Delaware materials ranging from Willy Longbones in Oklahoma to the Munsee speakers in Ontario. There are also a number of Munsee recordings in Series XII.

Description: The Tuscarora materials in the Lounsbury Papers include a dictionary by Chief Elton Greene, J.N.B. Hewitt's Tuscarora version of the Seneca Cosmology, and Blair Rudes's notes as he was developing his Tuscarora Dictionary in Series II. The recordings in Series VII include Lounsbury's work with Tuscarora speaker and teacher Marjorie Printup, which includes work on grammar, stories with explanations, Christian phrases, pedagogy, and reminiscences, etc. Also included are a significant number of tapes Lounsbury made with Tuscarora speaker Nellie Gansworth, many unidentified.
