Description: This collection consists of 28 sketches, 8 black and white silver gelatin photographs, and 2 negatives of North Carolina Cherokee artifacts from ca. 1893-1948. Presumably collected by Frank Speck with John Witthoft during the latter's graduate field work, the images reflect the social life and customs of the Cherokee including war clubs, garments, Deer & Bear masks, rattles and dance formations. Of the dances presented are the Pigeon, Partridge, Corn, Beaver, Green Corn, and Ball game. Of note, an 1893 photograph by Mooney depicting Cherokee men and women in native attire at a ceremony before a ball game. The sketches are noted in Murphy Smith's Historical American Sketches.

Description: The Quechua materials in the Elsie Clews Parsons papers consist of correspondence with Juan Gorrell found in Subcollection I, Series I, "Correspondence", and mulitple sets of notes in photographs in "No. 60. Notes on Peguchi and other South America Tribes" in Subcollection I, Series II, "Notes, manuscripts, etc." Most of these materials pertain to Quechua people in northern Ecuador. Additional relevant material may appear in correspondence folders.

Description: The Zapotec materials in the Elsie Clews Parsons papers consist of materials in multiple sections of the finding aid. In Subcollection I, Series I, "Correspondence," see "Mitla, Town of Souls" and Parsons' "Letters in re. Mitla, Town of the Souls." In Subcollection I, Series II, "Notes, manuscripts, etc." the final notebook in "No. 11 Taos notebooks" is predominantly in Spanish and concerns fieldwork in Oaxaca among the Zapotec and other groups. Item "No. 19. Mitla journals" contains notebooks from Oaxaca, primarily concerning Zapotec matters. Item "No. 28. Mitla songs and photographs (Oaxaca region)" includes 14 songs, 183 photos, ca. 100 negatives of Oaxaca; 3 drawings and an article on Zapotec words; letter from E. D. Merrill to Franz Boas, May 13, 1930. Item "No. 53" contains a Zapotec-related newspaper clipping. In Subcollection II, Series I, "Professional Correspondence," see correspondence with Robert Redfield.
