Description: This entry covers materials not otherwise covered by other entries relating to the Anthony Wallace Papers. Researchers are advised to see also the other entries devoted to specific cultural groups, Of particular interest will be Series II. Research Notes and Drafts, particularly Subseries A. Indian Research, which contains correspondence, notes and drafts from Wallace's research among the Seneca and Tuscarora. Some overlapping Native American material is in Subseries B. Revitalization and Culture. Also of particular interest will be Series IX. Indian Claims, which contains Wallace's work (with his research assistant Michal Lowenfels Kane) as an expert witness for several Native American land claims, including those of Creek, Dakota (Sioux), Delaware, Haudenosaunee (Iroquois), Iowa, Kickapoo, Meskwaki (Fox, Sac and Fox, or Sauk and Fox), Miami, Muckleshoot, Oto-Missouri, Pawnee, Shawnee, and Wyandot peoples. Another concentration of materials can be found in Series VII. Eastern Pennsylvania Psychiatric Institute and pertain to Wallace's study of "arctic hysteria" (piblokto) among Greenland Inuit. Description: The Wailaki materials in the ACLS collection consist mainly of Goddard's 10 field notebooks (item Na20c.1) in the "Wailaki" section of the finding aid. These consist mainly of texts with interlinear material on place names, with reference to an enclosed hand-drawn map, and information on deer hunting. Additional materials can be found in the "Hupa" section of the finding aid among Goddard's "Field notes in California Athabascan languages" (item Na.3), which includes additional Wailaki stories of undetermined extent, and in Goddard's "Hupa materials" (item Na20a.2), which include some Wailaki texts.

Description: Materials relating to Speck's study of the peoples now often known collectively as Wampanoag, but who once comprised several tribal entities living in eastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island, including Cape Cod (the Nauset) and islands such as Martha's Vineyard (the Aquinnah or Gay Head Indians). In Subcollection I, Series I, see item II(4B9c), "Mistassini Band -- c. Field Notes," which contains notes, some by Gladys Tantaquidgeon concerning "Gay Head Indians." In this same series, see item III(14D11) "Wampanoag miscellaneous notes," which includes one postal card from Uncle Al to Speck, concerning an island; a letter from Rachelle T. Ryan to Speck reserving a cottage at Gay Head; Frederick S. Hammett (Wistar Institute) to Speck concerning his archaeological find at North Truro, Massachusetts; and a four-page letter from Chief Leroy C. Perry (Ousamequin or Yellow Feather, Wampanoag) concerning tribal and intertribal social activities. Item III(14D17), "Pennacook miscellaneous notes" contains a notebook with information on Wampanoag of Martha's Vineyard and Cape Cod areas, incuding genealogical and population notes. Description: Daythal Kendall participated in the 1994-1995 Penutian Workshops, collecting a wide range of material from before and after that conference that sought to solidify some of the various Penutian phylum hypotheses, including of two languages spoken at Yakama Reservation: Yakama Sahaptin and Wasco-Wishram Chinook. Description: William Bright's Yurok materials include audio recordings he made around the same time as recording Karuk, especially of songs. The originals are generally stored at the Berkeley Language Center, but are also housed at the American Philosophical Society, Series 6. There are three notebooks from a fieldtrip made in the early 1960s in Series 3 Subseries 1 (one of which begins with Tolowa language information), in addition to several other elicited lexica in Series 2. He revisited in 1977, the itinerary for which is in Series 4.

Description: Five items relating to the Zuni language have been identified in the C. F. Voegelin Papers. Subcollection I contains relevant correspondence with Dennis Tedlock (regarding Tedlock's Zuni consultants' dealings with Hopi) in Series I. Correspondence. In Subcollection II, materials include correspondence with George L. Trager (regarding Tanoan, Picuris, Zuni, and Taos) and Stanley Newman (regarding his fieldwork at Laguna and Zuni and subsequent publications) in Series I. Correspondence; and a Zuni folder in Series II. Research Notes, Subseries VI. Penutian, including Mayan and Zoque. Zuni is also represented on Harry Tschopik's map of "Indian Languages in New Mexico, A.D. 1600" (1938) in Subseries V: American Indian Languages.
