Description: Recording of Penobscot Language Master Cards. Also contains the original list of 1255 English words and phrases used in the recordings (47 p,); a phonetic transcription of the corresponding Penobscot for the first 333 cards, made by Evan Pritchard (10 p.); and a letter from Sister Helen McKeough of the Indian Island School to members of the Penobscot Nation explaining the contents of the tapes and circumstances of their recording. Description: The majority of the materials (all manuscripts and several audiocassettes) in the Jan Bruckner Papers relate to the Tohono O'odham language and reservation. They were produced from an effort to create Tohono O'odham vocabulary to facilitate physical therapy sessions, while Bruckner (a physical therapist) was working at Sells Indian Hospital, Tohono O'odham Reservation, between 1982 and 1992. There is a binder and some classroom handouts with medical vocabulary, commercial maps and other printed materials, and audiocassette recordings of language classrooms and of lexica and phrases recorded by primarily John Miguel. The entire collection has been digitized and is available in the Digital Library, via the collection finding aid.

Description: There are three identified areas of Ute material in the Lounsbury Papers. 400 pages of field notes by Anne M. Smith (1936-1937) and 800 pages of Uintah field notes by La Barre (1935-1937) can be found in the "Uto-Aztecan" subseries of Series II, along with reports sent to Leslie Spier and Edward Sapir in Series I. An audio recording made by Lounsbury and Joseph Jorgensen with Harriet Johnson (Uncompaghre Ute of Whiterocks, Utah) in 1960 is in Series VII, and associated correspondence with Jorgensen in Series I describes further details.
