Description: The Aymara materials in the Lounsbury Papers consist of comparative linguistics and studies of kinship in Series II. Of particular interest are the audio recordings in Series VII on the folklore of the Ayar Incas. The correspondence, in Series I, contains information of the geographic distribution of the language, Lounsbury's analysis of the language and its relationship to Quechua, Christian scriptures in Aymara, Morris Swadesh's work on genetic classification of Native American languages, and geographic distribution of Aymara population.

Description: The C. F. Voegelin Papers contain correspondence, card files, notes, notebooks, texts, translations, drafts, articles, maps, and other linguistic and ethnographic materials relating to Delaware (Lenape) language and culture. Many of these items pertain to Voegelin's "Walam Olum or Red Score: The Migration Legend of the Lenni Lenape or Delaware Indians," published by the Indiana Historical Society in 1954. Such materials are located in primarily in Subcollection I. There is relevant correspondence with Charles Hockett (with questions about Voegelin's article on Delaware and examples from other Algonquian languages), Eli Lilly (regarding various aspects of the Walam Olum, its interpretation and publication), Kenneth E. Pearson (regarding use of Delaware language in Boy Scout ceremonies), John N. Description: William Bright's Nahuatl materials are sizeable and cover his entire research life, mostly consisting of his own work from the 1960s and 1990s (Series 4), and many copies of small publications throughout his life (Series 2). Of note in the small publications is almost every issue of “Nahua Newsletter” (Indiana University) between 1986 and 2004, issues 1-18 of “Mexihkatl Itonalama”, and several 1940s-1960s SIL-archived publications. From his own work (Series 4) are interlinear glosses of Nahuatl texts, materials in preparation for taught courses at UCLA, products of brief fieldwork in Ixmiquilpan, Mexico, 1966, working versions of two of his own publications, and further linguistic analysis. He also corresponded with several linguists on Nahuatl varieties (Series 1), including Una Canger, who gave him a copy of the Copenhagen Nahuatl Dictionary Project.

Description: Mary Haas' Nuu-chah-nulth (“Nootka”) file is extensive, with the majority of the volume being several thousand index cards of lexica in Series 9, including comparison with especially Ditidaht. Haas' first fieldtrip was with Morris Swadesh in the early 1930s to document Ditidaht songs, and Ditidaht frequently appears alongside Nuu-chah-nulth across the entire collection, as well as featuring briefly in a notebook from that early fieldtrip (Series 2). Much of the remaining material is directly from Morris Swadesh and Edward Sapir in the dedicated Series 2 Subseries ‘Nuu-chah-nulth', including annotations of a copy of Sapir's field notebook, and a long paper on Nuu-chah-nulth aspect. Haas also authored works including "The Structure of Stems and Roots in Nootka-Nitinat", notes for which are in Series 2.

Description: Throughout the 1990s, Jane Rosenthal conducted research at the Archivo General de Mexico and Newberry Library of Chicago on the life and work of Natal Lombardo. This included researching and attempting to produce a facsimile of his “Arte de la Lengua Teguima”, and identifying one document, previously attributed to him, to actually be of Eudeve by Balthasar Xavier Loaysa. Two publications resulted from this. Materials surrounding this include research notes and xeroxes of source materials (Series 2 Subseries 3; Series 5), correspondence (Series 1; Series 5), and digital materials (Series 9). See the description of Series 2 Subseries 3 for more details.
