Description: The Oneida materials in the Lounsbury Papers include photographs in Series I. Series II contains plays and songs from the WPA Oneida Language Project and the Workers Alliance of the Oneida Indian Council. Also of interest are an Oneida dictionary by Mercy Doxtator, et al., a field notebook by Martin Joos, and Lounsbury's work on an Oneida dictionary. There are an abundance of recordings in Series VII including "Dekanawidah" as told by Demus Elm; the "opening" of the Thanksgiving address; sixteen conversations in Oneida; music. Description: The Unangan and Unangas materials in ACLS collection are located in the "Aleut" section of the finding aid and primarily consist of "Aleut texts" (item E2.1), recorded by Jochelson at Attu and Unalaska. These are untranslated, except for three, which have interlinear translation and notes. Also in this section is "Essay on the grammar of the Aleut language" (item E2.2) with Boas's corrections, and "Aleut Folklore" (item 69), an ethnography of the Unangan by an unidentified author, likely a student of Boas, based on study made of the Aleut texts of Vladimir Jochelson. Comparative folklore and abstracts of Aleut tales are included. In the "Yup'ik" section of the finding aid, also see Swadesh's "Unaaliq Eskimo vocabulary file" (item E1b.200), which contains comparisons with Aleut languages.

Description: The Wintu materials in the Harvey Pitkin Papers are extensive. Subcollection I, Series I, contains notes, notebooks, vocabularies, slip files, texts, manuscripts and phonetic tracings by Jeremiah Curtin in the late 19th century, Roland Dixon, and A.M. Halpern. Series I-B contains Pitkin's grammar slip files and vocabularies collected by Curtin. Series I-C includes Jaime de Angulo's manuscript on the Patwin language, S.A. Barrett's transcriptions and translations of speech and song recordings, Radin's "Grammatical Sketch" and Waterman's notes on Patwin phonetics. Series II-A is rich in materials collected by A.L. Krober. In Subcollection II, Pitkin's field notes are located in Series 2, Subseries 1. Subseries 2 includes Pitkin's extensive notes on his Wintu dictionary, grammar, texts, stories, and music. The manuscript of the dictionary is located in Subseries 3. There is an unpublished 416 page manuscript of stories written in both English and Wintu, songs, and transcriptions in Subseries 4. This section also includes copies of all the extant linguistic material with works by noted linguists such as Curtin, Albert Gatschet, Radin, Halpern, Morris Swadesh, Victor Golla, and J.P. Harrington. Series 6 is comprised of card file slips with comparative analyses by Pitkin of the four languages of the Wintun family.

Description: The Wintun materials in the Harvey Pitkin Papers include a wealth of material collected by Pitkin from other scholars as well as his own linguistic work. The work of Paul Radin, A.L. Kroeber, Jeremiah Curtin, and T.T. Waterman can be found in Subcollection I, Series I and Series II. In Subcollection II, Pitkin's field notes of stories, songs, and myths are typed but were never published. Subseries 4-B and 4-C, "Source Texts," contains creation myths collected by Curtin, works by Kroeber, Albert Gatschet, and J.P. Harrington, Vocabularies collected by Morris Swadish, C. Hart Merriam, Arroyo de la Guesta (1821). Subseries 5 includes Pitkin's work on comparative Wintun Vocabularies and Proto-Wintun as well as Kenneth Whistler's work on Proto-Wintun. Series 6 has a large number of Wintun word slips.

Description: The Yana materials in the ACLS collection consist of multiple items in the "Yana" section of the finding aid. These predominantly consist of vocabularies, grammatical notes, and other linguistic analyses. Included among them are 25 notebooks recorded by Edward Sapir, with accompanying vocabulary files, along with additional shorter materials by Kroeber, and derivative work by Swadesh. All of these were recorded from knowledge given by Ishi, known as the speaker of Yana.

Description: There are two identified Yuki materials in the ACLS collection. In the "Yuki" section of the finding aid is a "Preliminary report on Yuki tones" (item Yk.1) by Hans Uldall, which includes a discussion of syllable structure, stems, and suffixes and of the behavior of tones with stems and suffixes, plus a list of stem forms. In the "Hokan" section of the finding aid, there are some additional Yuki terms of undetermined extent in the "Hokan-Siouan comparisons" lexical files (item H.3).

Description: The Zapotec materials in the ACLS collection are located primarily in the "Zapotec" section of the finding aid, which includes a detailed listing. The bulk of the materials were recorded and assembled by Jaime de Angulo and Morris Swadesh. De Angulo's materials include texts with Spanish and English translations, with accompanying linguistic notes, and studies proposing relationship among languages of Oaxaca. Swadesh's materials include vocabularies in multiple varieties of Zapotec with accompanying linguistic analyses. Currently only the three Zapotec languages given above in this listing can be specifically identified based upon information on locations where they were recorded. There are additional Zapotec languages of an undetermined quantity in this materials that are currently only identified in the cataloging according to regional terms such as Mountain and Valley dialects, Ixtlán, and Villa Alta. Some additional comparative materials utilizing Zapotec data can also be found in the "Mexico" (items AM3 and AM5) and "Mixtec" (item MiM.1) sections of the finding aid.
