Description: The Chinanteco material in the ACLS collections are primarily found in the "Chinanteco" section of the finding aid. Two items are stories (Ch.1 and Ch.2, "El perrito de Teotitlan" and "Cuento del pescador", which identifies Yolox and Yetla varieties) recorded by Jaime de Angulo, with Spanish and English translation. Another item (Ch.3) is a 64-word Spanish-Chinantec vocabulary recorded by Norman McQuown. Two items in the "Mexico" section of the finding aid (items AM3 "Phonemic systems of various Indian languages of Mexico" and AM5 "Comparative vocabularies of various Indian languages of Mexico") contain comparative vocabularies that include Chinantec, as do two items in the "Mixtec" section (items MiM.1 "Mixtec tones and morphological comments" and MiM.2 "Mixtec and Chinantec lexicon", varieties of Mixtec unidentified), and "Zapotecan texts" (item Z.3) in the "Zapotec" section. The identification of varieties of Chinantec in most of the materials is undetermined.

Description: The Huave materials in the ACLS collection consist of a dictionary based on texts by Paul Radin of 1912-1913 (item MzH.1, "Huave-English dictionary"). Additions were made from Milton and Clara Warkentin and by Radin some time after 1952. The microfilm copy of these materials was made before the revisions. This material can be located in the "Huave" section of the finding aid.

Description: The Mixtec materials in the ACLS collection consist mainly of three items in the "Mixtec" section of the finding aid. Radin's "Mixtec and Chinantec lexicon" (item MiM.2) is based on his own fieldwork and other published work by Belmar. See separate guide entries for the Paul Radin Papers (Mss.497.3.R114), which contain his original fieldwork. There is also an analysis of Mixtec tones and those of other neighboring language families by Jaime de Angulo (item MiM.1), and a Spanish-Mixtec vocabulary assembled by McQuown and Swadesh (item MiM.3). In the “Mexico” section of the finding aid, see “Comparative vocabularies of various Indian languages of Mexico” (item AM5), which includes Mixtec vocabulary, and McQuown's “Phonemic systems of various Indian languages of Mexico” (item AM3), which includes Mixtec information. In the “Zapotec” section of the finding aid, see de Angulo's “Estudio gramatical de las lenguas de la familia zapoteca” (item Z.1), which includes Mixtec information and ten ink sketches of maps showing linguistic groups, and de Angulo's “Zapotecan texts” (item Z.3) which includes Mixtec texts. Specific Mixtec languages identified above are based upon languages located in Radin's fieldwork.

Description: Materials relating to Radin's study of Zapotec languages, located in Series V and Series VIII. Includes a variety of materials, such as word lists, lexical slips, bibliographical notes, grammatical notes, texts (often with interlinear translations), and a Spanish-Zapotec dictionary comprised of about 15,000 slips, as well as materials for a Spanish-Zapotec lexicon and a Spanish-Zapotec vocabulary. Many of the pages are labelled with the name of a town or district in Oaxaca. One informant mentioned: Felipe Castellana, associated with Mitla.
