Description: The Apinayé materials in the Lounsbury collection consist of materials in two sections. Series I contains correspondence with Dell Hymes, concerning a manuscript in German on the Apinayé by Curt Nimuendajú, and with Carol Schilling and David Schneider. In Series II, in the "South America" sub-series, there are four folders beginning "Apinayé" by Lounsbury, mainly on kinship terminology.

Description: The Aymara materials in the Lounsbury Papers consist of comparative linguistics and studies of kinship in Series II. Of particular interest are the audio recordings in Series VII on the folklore of the Ayar Incas. The correspondence, in Series I, contains information of the geographic distribution of the language, Lounsbury's analysis of the language and its relationship to Quechua, Christian scriptures in Aymara, Morris Swadesh's work on genetic classification of Native American languages, and geographic distribution of Aymara population.

Description: The majority of the Batak materials in the Floyd Lounsbury Papers are in Series II, Kinship subseries, under the title "Batak Kin Classification and Behavior", which documents the proceedings and results of a graduate school seminar on the structural analysis of systems of Toba Batak kin classification and behavior, held at Yale University in 1966. This includes transcripts and resultant papers. In Series I, correspondence with Benda and Bruner also discusses Batak kinship, dictionaries, fieldwork, and the M.A. thesis of Ihromi-Simatupang (who was Batak).

Description: There are some materials relating to Iroquoian languages in the C. F. Voegelin Papers. This entry is intended as a catch-all for materials labeled as "Iroquois" or "Iroquoian." Researchers should also view the entries for specific Iroquoian languages and culture groups (i.e., Oneida, Seneca, Cherokee). Iroquoian materials are located in both Subcollection I and Subcollection II. In Subcollection I, there is relevant correspondence with Floyd Lounsbury (regarding Oneida, Seneca, and Cherokee work) and Herman B Wells (to William Fenton regarding sending Voegelin to the Iroquois Conference accompanied by slips of notes including potential language consultants including Leroy Cooper, Sherman and Clara Red Eye, Jesse Cornplanter, and Will Bomberry) in Series I. Correspondence; and one folder each of Iroquois (an exam bluebook containing notes on Iroquois history, documentary sources, and some words) and Siouan-Iroquois material (a word list) in Series V.
